The U12's returned to Koonung Park for the second time this season (after an earlier practice match) to face a familiar Mitcham Tigers side. An early blow to the team when last week's player of the week Daniel, was ruled out with injury - hopefully he can get back soon.
The Jets were fierce in the first quarter with early control of the match. Dylan kicked the first goal and we hit quarter time 1 point in front.
The second quarter saw a number of wasted opportunities as we surged forward on a number of occasions but the only reward on the score board was a solitary behind. Still, our defense held on well to restrict Mitcham and we went to the main break still in front by a point.
Mitcham started to get on top in the third quarter with our defense under pressure from repeated forward 50 thrusts. Still, we had a number of chances but again failed to convert and only added a behind to the tally. We were 13 points down at 3/4 time but had some belief we were still in the game as we finished strongly in the practice game against the same side.
Unfortunately, we didn't fire in the last with Mitcham finishing too strongly. Final scores were Mitcham 6.5.41 def Heathmont 1.3.9. Some good performances by Gabriel, Frash, Patrick, Thomas, Shannon, Campbell, Zac, and Kai.
The mum's were treated to flowers and chocolates by the team after the match as we celebrated Mother's Day.
